stonishing design is found in enchanting places. Like the extraordinary design evoked by wild gardenias, we are blessed with going to the ends of the earth to discover exuberant, handmade folkart, decorative accessories, and wearable art.

Welcome to VillageMarkets Trading Co. It is our pleasure to share with you the lives and creations of our favorite artisans from the Highlands of Guatemala, the villages of Bali, the pueblos surrounding Cuzco, Peru, and treasures from nine regions of Mexico.

Fair trading since 1992, we consciously pay artisans fair prices to support their families, expand their aspirations, and strengthen their traditions. Since 1997 we have led Insider's Tours into the village heart, and village markets in Guatemala and Mexico, where tour participants are immersed in indigenous cultures, village markets, and sacred sites.

Thank you for your continuing enthusiasm and support for the handmade, for our cultural immersion tours, and for your dedication to folkart.

Folk Art: Irrepressible,
Ephemeral, and Essential.

olk Art is sometimes short-lived, and always an exuberant part of indigenous daily and ceremonial life. The making of skillful, village art, some signed, most not, is passed now from generation to generation, and valued and collected, such as Josefina Aguilar's Oaxaca, Mexico clay creation pictured here, sitting on a textile Huipil woven blouse from Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Folk art delights us with its vitality and originality, and takes many forms: clay, wood, fiber, and precious metals.
